OK, so I know this is a tough one and depends on the year. But, my question is how often does it happen where you get to keep the houses on the ice until the DNR kicks you off? I see the date up north is March 21st this year and would like to plan a trip with the wheelhouse the week before. It would be in the Winnie area and I know the snow has been hurting the ice so it might not happen this year, but am still curious how often the ice is still good that time of year up there.

    Thanks,
    Brad

I bet most every year… Up here in northern WI, I had my boat on the water last spring and that is the only year since I moved up here in .’94. The year before we were still driving on the ice April 15th and most years are able to get out on the ice walking until at least then. I have ice fished the open water opener (first Sat. in May) once up here and had planned to do it twice more. Other than getting your wheelhouse out on the ice ’cause of snow, I bet you can plan away!!!

I go there in the summer and the resort owner has had ice the day before opener. So you should be plenty good. The lake we go to in the summer has about 16 inches with 12+” of snow and slush pockets right now.

Cool, thanks guys. It might have to be a last minute thing this year. Hopefully it works out, you never know with mother nature.
