out to lake onalaska today where i saw probably 10 fish next to holes all keepers that people left. one was a 13 inch perch. thats after it had froze and shrunk. if u r gonna keep fish, keep them. dont just leave it if u only get one or two, clean them put em in the freezer and eat em with the next batch. if u cant do that stay off the ice/water and leave the fishing to the real sportsmen. ya friggin jag offs.

I’ve had a couple of outings where the first couple of fish are keepers and then the rest of the night is small ones. I always give them to someone that is cleaning a mess of ’em. Plus, it’s a great way of striking up a conversation.

Once in awhile while tossing a pannie back you’ll bump their noggin just right. You know, the fish clenches it mouth, gills flair and then convulsions set in. Dead fish

Careful of that 3 point, off the ice back board shot.

Not too many years back, an out of state party were camped on the backwaters on pool 11. The first day they left about a hundred tiny gills on the ice, thinking they were doing the stunted river gills(of course they are not) a favor. The next day this group ran into a major verbal storm that re-directed their logic

It’s a sunfish, not a football. No need for the endzone dance. Just let him go nice and gentle.

Just be sure specifically how it is stated in your state’s regulations. Also, a dead fish is part of your daily bag limit

The crows will probably get it. They are smart for bird brains.

Corvus Corax. Common Raven. I think that I read somewhere that they, along with some species of true parrots, are the smartest birds on in the world. I believe that they measured memory and then the ability to learn new tasks. I think that the parrots were able to win in the memory dept. but the Ravens far outshone the parrots in their ability to learn a new task and then improvise when a variable was changed to complete the same task. Anyways, there is one other thing that you will probably never need to know. If anyone has any other questions about usless information that will do you no good in the real world, let me know. I am your guy.

Nothing torwues me worse than guys who throw them dink perch on the ice….or the guys who fish deep crappies, give em the bends and push em under the ice…

Now when I see people throwing them perch on the ice, I ask em if they are keeping them. If they don’t, I make a TIP call…

Had a guy throw a few small gills on the ice and it was obvious that he was not keeping them. He noticed me watching him so he put them in holes in the ice. I walked by and they appeared dead/frozen. I made the comment to him about they dont get bigger when they are dead laying in the hole. He said nope. Then went over and pushed them under the ice. What a d**k. It was all I could do not to go and snap all of his rods. I dont understand why he was doing it. I should mention we were fishing the river also so I would not assume the size had any effect on the fish as far as stunting them. Nobody was catching fish to speak of. It was not like he did it to a lot of them only 3 that I seen, but if he was catching more I would assume he would have done it to those as well. Kind of ruined my day… I should have done more and next time will, but what a waste.

Sorry to hear that since the Chiefs are going to kick some Raven tomorrow.

I just had to jump on that one.

On a more serious note people that throw their unwanted fish on the ice are just foolish, the small fish from today are the future of our sport. If you take all of the small fish out of a system the larger fish will be eaten by preditation, they also will have more fry and plankton to eat making your jig harder to entice a bite.

This was mentioned just a while ago on this thread, but ANY fish caught and dropped on the ice is part of that person’s limit. Size doesn’t matter, numbers do. I brought that to the attention of one person who wanted to argue and I just left. On my way from that spot to home I happened to see the CO not a blck from where said nitwit was and gave him specifics. I told him I’d go back and fish my old holes and that the fool would be the first person near me.

I go back and get settled and see that the dink’s fish pile has increased. The CO comes along with his rod and walks up to me and asks if he can use my auger and drill near me. I play the game. The CO is “fishing” with nothing but a small splitshot on the end of the line. The other idiot just keeps piling it up and commenting on how this new arrival is some kind of case for showing up without an auger and then has the equipment to horn in on his [said nut’s] area. After fifteen minutes the CO strolls over and tells the guy the same thing I did and the guys gets pushy, literally.

The guy was written for possessing 61 sunfish, 36 over his limit and he was escorted off the ice by the local deputies for assualt on an officer along with his over the limit. I wonder if he learned anything that day?
