My buddy has an FL-18 that he is having issues with. he will turn the unit on and work fine for 5 minutes an then the screen turns into a sea of red…..any ideas of what could be wrong?

Sounds like the battery to me.

Change it out with another battery to eliminate that possibility.

Seems like 75-80% of all issues with any flasher are in the battery. I think that is what I heard on one of the vexilar shows I watched.

That’s why I said it, I have a 75 to 80% chance of being right.

Bad battery. I had the same thing happen to mine. Called vex and sure enough, that’s what they told me. Replaced the battery and all is well.

Since that time I’ve switched to leaving my battery on a maintenance charger at all times when not in use. I think it really helps the life of the battery.

Couple years ago I had the same issue–battery was showing full charge, but several friendly IDO’ers recommended battery replacement. Took it in, had it tested and bingo, battery output was low. New battery did the trick, been running strong ever since! Thanks IDO!
Swing by a battery shop and get it tested…or just go ahead and replace it. Hate to say it, but BK may be right???

The stinky thing is a lot of the time a guy’s battery charger will read 100% yet the battery is still wonked. When in doubt… its the first thing I’d check.

Silly cat guy…. please replace “stinky” with “cruddy,” “unfortunate,” or “confusing” as you see fit.
