Mille Lacs Help

Happy New Year Everyone! Just got back last night from a couple days on LOW. Tough bite with bitter temps and high pressure. 3 of us ice 30 fish in two days with the bulk of them being saugers and a couple of nice perch mixed in. Fished out of Zippel Bay this trip. Probably will head back in March and fish a little further north off Pine. Anyway…. We have a day to spend on Mille Lacs next week and I need some advice. I am reading the reports and gaining some valuable info from them but I’ve only fished Mille Lacs twice and with no success. We were with a less than stellar outfit (which will remain un-named) in sleeper shacks both trips and nearly got skunked. Not a good introduction for me to what is obviously a great fishery based on all of your reports. Maybe there is not much more to be said than what is being posted but it’s a big lake and I have one day! Looks like we should get on at Hunter’s Point / Appledorns and head out in search of some transition areas. If there is some other light you could shed for a Mille Lacs rookie that would be great! Thanks everybody!

Yeah generally speaking sleepers can be a tough deal and being mobile is KEY on ML, which sleepers mostly arent.

Sounds like you have got a pretty good grasp of what is going on from the reports. If you are working the Hunters/Appledorns area I might try the what I call the Liberty Humps between the two resorts or 3 mile. I have my perm shack in the area and it has been putting out eyes in the morning and through the night. Its been slowing lately but the WX has not been stable when Ive been there lately also. Seems like the perch pop there heads out around 9am. Work mobile hole hoping for them in the afternoon.

Moon glows in perch with a fatty on the deadstick and Northland forrige minnow spoone with a head jigged have iced eyes for us. Switching to a waxie or euro on the spoon for perch.

I have no report on any mud but i would guess some tulibee would be around there now as well and deeper transition areas. good luck -Mark

Thanks a ton, Mark. Got a Lakemaster map to study so I’ll mark some of the areas that are producing according to your report and others and start there. Have an older H2O that doesn’t read the newer chips but my paper map has coordinates so I can get in the right areas and punch holes to locate the fish. Looking forward to it. I’ll post my results after the outing. Thanks again for your willingness to share the info.
