Hi I am new to IDO. I have been reading on this forums for a couple of days. You guys have a good site. Seem to be very knowledgeable. I am going to convert to artificials this year. I was wondering what your personal favorite brands and colors for perch, croppies, gills. If you guys could help me in my selection I would appreciate it. Please put names of artificials a web site so I can find them. I am going to order a lot of fiskas jigs also. Thank you for your time

Welcome to IDO! Good to see a new “face” around here. For panfish, I really like Northland Tackles Bro’s Bloodworms. Those things are great. Red and bubblegum have worked the best for me. I also use some of the small lindy tails as well. Chartruse and orange are good colors in those. Ummm….I don’t fish for crappies but I have heard that the Little Atom Nuggies work really well for them. Glow, red, and purple seem to be what the guys talk about at the baitshop. Hope that this will help. Good luck and be safe out there.

i use both custom jigs and spins plastics, lindy panfish plastics and little atom plastics. i’ve had really good success with all three. you cant really go wrong with getting some from each company.

I’ve caught more big crappies on ratsos that I could ever hope to count.

x2…..just not necessarily in any order. Let the fish tell you what they are wanting to hit. Size, shape, profile, color, action all become factors that fish will key on on any given day so you can’t say just one plastic will do you the best and what works like dynamite for one person might not work at all for another.

Go to the ice with a wide assortment of plastics, only a few of each. They don’t have to weigh you down.

I use plastics all the time but never leave home without my spikes. Gives you a few different things to try when the bite isn’t suicidal.
