I just order the Ice Troller and Performance pack. From what I can tell it doesn’t come with a 12volt battery. What size 12 volt would work and what size will fit in the performance pack?

Any gel cell 12v. in the 7 – 9 AMP range will fit and work well. The dimensions on this type of battery are approximately 6″ long, 3.75″ tall and 2.5″ deep. You can find this type of battery at most sporting goods retailers this time of year. The 7 AMP versions will be the least expensive and the 9 AMP version, which offers a longer run time, will often cost considerably more.
Hope this helps.

January 4, 2011 at 3:57 am #922328Happy to help. In this application, given that the troller will run 20 hours on a set of AA batteries, I would think an inexpensive 7 AMP battery would be all that is needed.
I’ve been using my Troller as a hole-to-hole search tool when its my turn on the auger and I’ve been very impressed with this unit’s capabilities. It is more than a “depth” finder. The target separation and response / write speed is very good for a $200 unit. The best part is I can throw the thing in my pocket and check depths when I want or need to do so between holes without relying on my buddy to trail behind with a full-sized flasher.
January 4, 2011 at 12:40 pm #922371I totally agree with the words from James. I made the purchase for the same reason, quick and easy to check out holes before setting up. With that said….I’m glad I purchased the performance pack and by doing so find myself using the unit when set up more than I thought I might. The brightness of the screen and the reaction time takes on a whole new dimension when plugged into your 12v battery. I am using a 7amp that was laying around for backup and it will last the weekend before needing a charge.
The unit was set out on the ice this last Sunday to see how the Ice Mode worked. With the temp at 1 degree the unit stay warm enough that I could not see any difference with reaction time on the screen. I’m lovin’ it!!!When you make the purchase be sure to play around with the settings. The sensitivity button is just as important as the gain button on flashers for giving you target separation.
My Showdown Troller also sits in the tent with me not 3 feet away from the LX-5 and there are no issues with clearing up both screens. The Troller is used to keep an eye on my dead stick, I like to know when something comes sniffin’ aroundJanuary 4, 2011 at 12:49 pm #922376I,m useing a 12v 3amp battery. I also am finding i use it for fishing in a base mount i made. Nice unit and even Better with the battery thanks to Bretts advice.
January 4, 2011 at 6:22 pm #922519I agree with Bret and James 100%, The Troller you can’t go wrong with it, very easy to use simple and on the money. As for battery’s for the unit itself I have been running Duracell Pro Cells and I have no problems at all, I just picked up a good gel cell 12vt that I plug into when I sit still for a few hrs. I to also have been running it as one of my main units, I have invited many Lake Superior Hogs to the ice so far this ice season for pic’s. Enjoy your unit, The only thing I want to do is get another mount that the unit sits in and mount it on to each of my machines I use for the days I don’t set up my shelter.
