I see more and more people using ground blinds as ice shacks. How well dose this work? Its not a bad idea especially if you don’t want to stand out in a hot spot. Just looking for some feed back if anyone has tried this.

I did this a few years ago and the one piece of advice I can give ya is to make sure you have some stakes to secure it…..I was chasing mine down the ice on a windy day before I had a chance to stake it in…
But once it was staked and I was fishing, it worked OK…alittle short for me to stand in, but it was fine….

I had an ameristep doghouse blind that I used. I got a foot of black canvas sewed to the bottom so you could bank it up and wouldnt have to stake it down. worked well but they say your not supposed to use a heater in it, probably because there are no vents, just windows. It worked well because it was light and only cost me 50 bucks for the blind an 15 for the canvas.

Completely agreed for the cheaper blinds….why not? However, for the nicer blinds, say a double bull, you’re better off going to purchase a dedicated hub-style ice shelter. They’re cheaper, and you’re not going to stink up, burn with the heater, or otherwise destroy your good turkey/deer blind.
