James,
The Humminbird is a great unit and works great. Funny how you post anytime you read the word Humminbird flasher.
Actually I don’t think I’ve commented on more than a handful of Humminbird flasher threads since the product was originally released.
What’s “funny” about my response to the guy? Nothing in my response was derogatory towards the Humminbird in any way.
You have any issues with this response? >>> web page
I was trying to be helpful with that response too. Granted it wasn’t in regards to a MarCum unit but I was trying to lend a hand.
Back to this thread… From my experience the clutter is normal when the gain is turned up on that unit. As an aside, this is normal on ALL flashers when you have the gain turned up. The more you turn up the gain, the more clutter you’ll have on the screen as the increasing sensitivity begins to display all sorts of tiny objects in the water column. The amount of gain needed varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and higher priced models within a product line typically have more power and more sensitive receivers… resulting in less gain being needed.
My response was based largely on an assumption that he had it turned up to see his jig due to his reference to losing the jig when he turned it down to reduce the clutter. Apparently you read right past this part? It seemed significant to me anyway. Granted there could be a lot more at play here as we didn’t touch on depths fished, jig size or style that might impact the ability to a sonar unit to pick up the bait in the water column, etc. It is quite common on this type of question to provide a best guess based on experience and info available.
The original poster said the unit “worked good.” So that would mean… there’s nothing wrong with the unit. And I reinforced that.
So are you saying the clutter isn’t normal and there’s something wrong with his humminbird? If so you might want to share that so this guy can get it fixed.
Happy New Year.
