Talked too a few guys on here about buying a Gps hand held unit, and they suggested a Navionics App. Which one is a better out of the two for Apps. Llisted? (*new*-Marine & Lakes USA) or (Lakes: US North)

Unless you are planning on fishing the entire US, get the North. It has more lakes and detail for the Upper Midwest than the one with all the states.

I do not believe you can get just “The North” any longer. The app store site for Navionics lists only the US Lakes or US & Canada Lakes and several foreign choices. It further states that all the lakes have been consolidated. Newer updates to the app will only work on the consolidated version. This is pretty recent info. I just bought the “USA” app yesterday and downloaded the PDF user manual.

Hey, us Android users have the same app too you know!

North should be the ticket as said, unless you are fishing across the US.

Are you happy w/the app? Is it comparable to lake master?

Yes I’m happy with it. It’s the same as if you put a Navionics chip into your hand held device over a Lakemaster. There’s good and bad from both these chips. I’ve always been a Lakemaster guy but to have this app on the phone and not have to carry another device with me on the ice is awesome.

Sounds like a ten dollar investment is worth the shot.Hows the battery life on the phone while running App?

I just installed it on my iPhone and it looks really good, going to test it side by side with my H2O and the Lakemaster Chip this weekend. I will report back.

Oh Yea the only ones available now are the USA and the USA/Canada combo no more North.

Got out this past weekend and put the iPhone with the Navionic’s US Lakes and Maps to the test along side of my Lowrance H20 with the WI Lakemaster chip.

I only got out on one lake but it was spot on with the H2O, they both showed me exactly off of a bend in the old river channel. The H20 is a little faster scrolling and can zoom in a little closer but for $10 the Navionic’s app works great.

I will be doing more testing this coming weekend and if it works as well as it did this past weekend I just might be selling my H20 and chips!!!
