Joel Nelson and I are up in the islands fishing south of Oak Island and the bite is very good. Mostly 16 – 18 inch fish but the numbers are ridiculous. Before the storm blew in we were hole hopping and it seemed like every hole was good for a fish or two. The wind is blowing like mad now so we’re tucked inside the otters and gettingthe fish in waves. Largest fish have been 22″ – 23″ but the fast action more than makes up for that.

For anyone coming up this weekend 18′ on rock south of oak island has been the place to be. 1/4 oz. Gold with glow slender spoon has been the best bait tipped with a minnow head.

Gotta run. There’s fish to catch!

A story without pictures…is just a fishing story.

Sounds like you’ll be getting a few extra inches of snow tonight.

By the time most of you are reading this we’ll hopefully be back home! This morning saw high winds, while later in the day brought a thirty mile snowmobile ride in blizzard conditions. Since then we’ve driven through knee deep snow and now a sheet of ice. Crazy weather! I’m annoying Holst with classic country and dumb jokes so he won’t fall asleep. Hoping to be home before dawn. It’s been an adventure from start to finish.

Little late know I’m guessing…but just keep his IV filled with Mt Dew and forget about the jokes. Works every time.

The jokes were lost on me as I must have broke my sense of humor earlier in the drive. I did appreciate the effort spent trying to keep me awake though. That drive was one of the worst I’ve ever had to tough through. Hwy 2 to the west of Grand Rapids was a “drive at your own risk” zone with snow so deep the bumper was pushing snow in front of us in spots. The once we got south of the snow the ice was unbelievable. We drove very carefully. There were lots of cars and trucks in the ditch that didn’t get the memo re: the storm and conditions.

As Joel put it… it was an adventure from start to finish!
