Is it worth the money to purchase a GPS system and install the Lake master chip ? Or just go about it blind & keep pounding holes until you locate fish with your flasher.

Lowrance H2o GPS …is it worth the investment?

It’s worth the investment in my opinion..I’m trying to decide which one to invest in..H20c or get the new Endura Out & Back..Anyone have any time with either?
December 30, 2010 at 4:05 am #920806If you fish a lot of different water, like to take a few trips each year, it is well worth the money. If you only fish a couple bodies of water, probably not. The great thing with the lakemaster chip (MN anyway) is also that they have very detailed road maps along with the lake maps, various DNR trails marked in State Forests, BWCAW portages…something I wasn’t expecting. Good Luck!

I thought Lowrance discontinued that model?????
Yes they did. There were assorted problems with it, I have never had one so I cannot give you specific examples. But you can do a search on IDO to see some.
And then there you have to try to get Lowrance to honor their warranty.
December 30, 2010 at 12:27 pm #920840Love my H2O never leave it at home and I have never had a issue with it, mine is over 5 years old.

Lowrance honors their warranties 100% of the time.
They also sell an extended warranty available anytime within the first year of ownership.
Those that are out of warranty attempting to get a
goodwill repair/replacement are the ones pissin and moanin all over the internet when Lowrance denies them a free fix.2/100
December 30, 2010 at 12:59 pm #920856if you have a smart phone, i think navionics has a gps app..
my buddy has it and its pretty accurate compared to my h20c and LM chip. youre not going to get the 1′ contours, but it gives you a good idea of drop offs, holes, etc.. and its only like $10 for the app. and you can overlay it on google maps (satellite and road versions)bromanPosts: 235December 30, 2010 at 1:55 pm #920875The navionics app does have 1 foot contours. I used it on Mille Lacs yesterday. My favorite feature is the red line that gets drawn out indicating you current direction.

bromanPosts: 235December 30, 2010 at 2:30 pm #920886No blackberry app. Only iPhone, iPad, and Android based phones.

They do and it’s awesome!! Just got it a few weeks ago.
If you don’t have a smartphone the H2O is great. I used to use it all the time till I got the app. If you have a Lowrance in the boat (I have an HD5) you can get an ice pack for it and use that as well. This gives you a bigger screen and you can get the ice pack for cheaper than an hand held unit. You can also then use it as a secondary flasher in one of your holes.
targamanInactiveWilton, WIPosts: 2759December 30, 2010 at 3:15 pm #920899I did some research and it’s been in the works for the last two years to get a navionics app on the blackberry. Sounds like the bb platform is to complicated. Wish I knew this a month ago, would’ve got a droid.
December 30, 2010 at 3:26 pm #920906My H2O works well and I like it with the Navionics chip. If a fellow angler has a hot hole you can just look at the screen to get the depth and contours, then finding a similar nearby spot is simple. Only problem is the monochrome screen will not work after 15-20 minutes of exposure to cold weather. I keep mine in a breast pocket out on the ice and bring out just when I need to look at it. I’m told the color screen will work in cold weather.
December 30, 2010 at 4:43 pm #920936My H2O is all scratched up. Wish I could fix that. Had good luck with it though.

H2OC is great…….until yesterday then ditto above even with my color unit.
December 30, 2010 at 8:14 pm #921025Love my H2Oc, if you can get the color unit do it, much better in the sunlight. Never had a problem with my H2O and never heard of any inherent problems with them.
December 30, 2010 at 11:29 pm #921082I love mine also only complaint is it’s hard on batteries but they are cheap
