    Hello –

I am looking to purchase a portable flip over fish house(2 Man) and wondering if anyone has any complaints with any of the major brands – Frabill, Clam, Eskimo, Otter. I know Otter is the way to go but I don’t really want to spend $500. Any advice on the brands would be great. Thanks.

Look at the Wild made by Otter, I have the Wild 2 and it is a great ice house for $319 on sale at Fleet Farm.

I have an Eskimo Quick Fish II. I like it, but there are two things that bother me.

    1. It’s very big and bulky for one person to load.
    2. The bench seat is a little funny, (it’s two aluminum bars with a gap between them, the pad squishes between this gap).

Other than that, it’s big, roomy and holds heat fairly well. We got it for $250 new so I can’t complain too much. I may screw a light board to those aluminum bars to keep the pad from squishing in.

Lots of nice looking 2 man houses on Craigs list right now. i have always fished clams and have never had any issues. That said my next one will be a otter

I’ve had no problems with my slightly older 2 man frabill tracker 2 flip.

Good idea. You could also try some Heavy plexiglas sheeting. Just another idea.

I have an Eskimo “Quick Flip II”. In general I like it but I’ve got two plastic windows that have broken. I would think that an ice shanty which is destined to be taken out in the bitter cold would have windows designed to not crack up in the bitter cold. I’m curious to know if other brands of shanties have the same problem with their windows.
