Marcum LX-5 battery

I have a question on flasher batteries. I’ve got an LX-5 and after one season my battery does not seem to be holding up. Only makes it a half day so I need to pick up a replacement. I stopped at farm and fleet and noticed they have two different batteries. A 7 amp and a 9 amp. I didn’t have the marcum with me, but when I got home and checked, it appears to be a 7 amp battery. Can I use a 9 amp on the marcum? Is there a benefit to 9 amps over 7? Obviously, I would get two more amps, but I honestly have no idea what that entails.

    Thanks.

Yes you can use the 9 amp battery on the Marcum

The 9 amp will last longer than the 7 amp battery.

Should get longer life out of a 9amp

Either battery will work, the 9amp is just going to give you a little bit more. Did you charge the current failing battery this summer? If not the DCS (digital charging system) will draw slowly and ruin the current battery. Always a good idea to remove the DCS after putting away for the summer. Otherwise make a mental not to charge the battery once every 2 months or so…

In battery lingo the 7 or the 9 is usually referring to “AH” or amp-hours….not amps. Amp-hours is capacity or the amount of energy you’ll get from a charge. So the 9 amp-hour battery will last longer on a charge…more time on the ice!

I could be wrong..but I don’t think a 9 amp-hour battery will last longer in terms of its overall life (number of charge cycles) though…they probably both have approximately the same total life expectancy.

I really like my LX-5, but battery life is the major downfall of high power in my opinion.

I did not charge it at all this summer. I also forgot to remove the DCS last spring. I knew when I pulled it out this year that the battery was most likely toast, but hoped for the best. I have nobody to blame but myself. Guess that’s what happens when you move shortly after ice season wraps up and don’t unpack your ice gear until November.

your flasher will work fine with either battery…7AH or 9AH.

I accidentlly left my DCS hooked up all summer. Battery had almost 0 volts when i checked it a month ago. I know thats not good on a SLA battery. It takes a charge and gets very warm when doing it. I use a Vex charger and you could leave it on until it melted down, and it wont give you the ready light @ well over 12.5v for some reason. But it has held up and never ran out on me so far this season, (charging after every use) so the battery must have some life left in it.
