Switch it to the LP side. You will have the same settings of Norm, BZ and BL but in lower power. Low Power is specifically desigined for shallow water. Sounds like you are on the right side settings which are full power. I sometimes use LP even in deeper water depending on how much of a return signal i get. -Mark

Good advice, have never run mine on anything other than low power. Glad to know a few people on here are running vexs. I love mine.

Hey thanks for the tip. Been using a vex for years and never could figure out what that setting was for. Never used a vex in shallow water either.

Hi I live on lake Puckaway and use the Fl8 in shallow water all the time. Some times I am as shallow as 3 feet of water using jigging raps for walleyes and the key is to use it on low power and I use it on the zoom even. I will not fish with out it at night for walleyes. There is a cable that reduces the power more yet if you need to that vex makes that will work good also. I do not mind if the jig turns a little red when you move it and most times when it is still it will turn green. Hope this helps !If you need some more ideas just let me know.

Glad to read all of the good things about the FL-18. I just got once for Christmas and am getting anxious to get out and use it. It is releaving to know that all you guys are giving it good reviews in shallow and deep water.
