I have an 8” Express 2hp Tecumseh going on its 4th season. It weighs in at 24lbs.
She’s a screamer and plenty auger for me. I’m not one to be shy about making some noise and punchin’ hole’s
With an auger rotation at 170RPM at full and Lazer blades it doesn’t take long to open some holes. Less effort and quicker than chipper blades.
With that said…I have had blade issues, do to my own fault. The blades don’t like stumps or sand. When drilling holes around areas that see truck traffic, make sure you are not drilling in the clump of crap that fell out from under a vehicle.
Chipper blades eat stumps and debris
Easy to sharpen and don’t freeze up as bad as shaver blades. They are slower and a little more work on the arms if you plan on running a tank of gas threw it per outing.
They all serve there purpose. 2-2.5hp is plenty for an 8inch cut or less. The 7inch is used by most. I agree 7 is plenty big but, beaver dams just look better hovering over an 8inch hole too me
Good luck with your decision
