Anyone own/use one? I have looked at them on line and haven’t made up my mind if I should get one or not. What’s your guy’s thoughts? Thanks in advance.

First time I got my hands on one was at the St.Paul Ice Show. I think it is a very sound design, cable hook up is simple and efficient. When I get the Marcum camera I’m looking forward to having this device !!

My only concern is how long the batteries will last. Yeah I know c cells are cheap…but I like looking around. If I can get a day out of a set, I’ll be happy.

I like the less wire, stand alone design.

Packaging / Marcum says 20+ continuous hours on a set of batteries… I will be using the energizer rechargeable

I don’t know but I can’t imagine needing to run the panner for 20 hours in one day…unless the wife or kids are with

Rechargeable batteries are the only way to go. My son goes through AA batteries for his Wii remote like nobody’s business! I am getting a charging station after the holidays when they go a little cheaper. It charges everything from 9V to D, C, etc. Pricey to start, but will pay off in the long run.

I have the aqua-vu tripod. Regular $19.99, seen them on sale for $9.99 this week. These are not motorized but work great. Easy to pan manually.

You will love the camera panner! It is so nice to just push a button and look left, look right and get it exactly settled in and not have that annoying rocking back and forth!

    Well worth getting!!

I have used the aqua-vu mo pod for several seasons,They are great when you can set up outside the portable a few feet away from your baits. They sure have got expensive since I bought mine but would not go without it now. If you do get one be careful when removing the cable fromn the plastic hook when they are cold as I found out you can easily break the hook off.

I have used the new Marcum panner. It works nice and I’m still on the same batteries. I think when they say 20 hours, that’s 20 hours continuous. You only use it for 30 seconds at a time most of the time. It is sure nice to have the control in your hand or close by when your fishing,no bending down to adjust as others are.

    I’m working on it Russ!

When I report back, you want video proof I’m guessing?

You may find the rechargeables in cold weather just don`t last.

Doesnt the camera panner plug into the Marcum and run off its batteries? The one that came with my camera does.

    Brian,

I was thinking I would maybe oversee the experiment if it takes place on p4. I will only be available during the nice warm sunny part of the testing though. I may bring along a rod too. Let me know when the experiment is going to start. I was thinking you should run the test on multiple battery types to just so everyone gets the right data from the study

No. It is a standalone unit that is powered off “C” batteries.

…and since I was an owner of the type where the power comes from the on board battery…standalone is the way they should have been built in the first place.

The rotation does take some power away from the camera, but more importantly (in my mind) one less cord to wrap up and trip over.

It works good.I set mine up outside my Yukon and it is nice not to have to get up to turn the camera. Had the cable freeze in hole so I had to power back and forth to break it loose. Also had a few drops of water freeze of the exposed gears, turned slow but crunch its way past.

I have Vexilar Fish Scout camera and was wondering if anyone knows if you could adapt the marcum camera panner to work with the vexilar camera?

    Thanks

The MarCum panner will work with any camera cable.

I have the tripod too and think it’s worthless. You could never get it to stay, if you turn it, the cord would never stay tight in the rubber stop and always move on you. I even lost the rubber stopper down the hole once and had to make another. I then made my own camera compass on a bucket lid which works better but still a pain to bend over and turn it while looking up at the screen (i mount my tv on the cross bar in front of me at eye level). The auto panner will be a purchase very soon. Sounds like just the ticket.
