I’m heading down to the Lacrosse area tomorrow evening and would like to do a little fishing on Friday to find some fish for Saturday. My GF wants to hit the ice on Saturday and if she is not catching anything she gets bored and wants to leave right away. All I want is an area to to go and where to get on the ice, no need for specific spots, once I’m on safe ice I will find the fish.

Also if anyone wants to get together on Friday I would be willing to let you use a few of my Tip Downs for the day and you can see first hand how well they work!!!

I wish I could give you a heads up but I haven’t been around to check things out since the snow

A buddy caught some nice fish at Stoddard yesterday. That’s all I’ve really heard about the last few days.

Yes, it’s about 7 miles south of La Crosse.

So….on a roady to tip a few before the ride home –

One lone soul was fishing the secret hole North of the I-90 bridge, South of Black River Beach. Who ever you were…you have a pair!

Pat Howard reports a few fishing the North side docks at Lauderdale.
Pat also mentioned “it looked like a suns-a-gun” to get on the ice there.

I might take the long way home tomorrow. If I do I’ll at least let you know where there is foot traffic.

Not sure where or what to target yet on Saturday myself.

It was probably that lone soul that was fishing about 5 years ago in the secret spot on christmas day when it was below zero. I would agree, he has a pair.

Ice conditions are favorable in the La Crosse area backwaters I could have actually put on the creepers today
With that said….the frozen/milky slush on top has taken away from getting a good reading through the ice with sonar….water or no water on the surface. just another little set back that only last a minute or two after the StrikeMaster is lit on fire

The reason for creepers is just to get your sled across small drifts once your feet hit snot …it will stop you in your tracks

I found 5-7inches of ice with the first 2 not as clear as the last 4 but, it was all solid and no water on top

Managed to get out on Friday off of French Island, hardly any snow on top where I was. Pulled my two man Eskimo Escape out with no problem other than needing the creepers because of bare areas.

Setup in 15 to 22 ft of water with two tip downs and jigging in the shack with plastics. Had to switch colors until I found what they wanted, best producer was black with purple second.

Had to sort through a lot of little ones. Vex had fish all over the water column with the bigger fish next to the bottom. Managed 2 Crappies and 8 Gills for a fish fry.

Went out Saturday out of Trempealeau with the GF, since we had a fish fry the night before we released all the fish. Did well on Tip Downs and lost count of the number of Crappies but it was well over a dozen and jigged up a bunch of gills, I remembered the waxies this time! There was more snow on the ice with 6 to 8″ in most spots with some drifting well over a foot.

Thanks for the tips on where to fish!!!!
