Actually I’m looking to add a few new tricks, tips, and baits for fishing gills and crappies. Since it looks like the ice may be a bit thin this weekend I have decided I have decided to head to the Ice Fishing show in St. Paul and will be bringing the plastic with. I’ve been given the green light to spend. I’m a pushover for buying stuff. Just ask Dean at Evert’s. Looking for brands, models, sizes, colors, and whom at the show will be selling. Not that it will happen it would be nice if folks had name tags at the sport show so we can put a name to the face. So those working the show give us a shout out.

well if you dont already have them, i would stock up on gill pills and diamond jigs in sizes 12,14,16 and as many colors as you want. ratso’s and ratfinkees are also a must. demon jigging spoons work good too. marmooskas work really good to and dont forget some plastics in a variety of colors too. have fun buying all that ice tackle

I’ll be there bouncing between seminars, MarCum, Thorne Brothers and Snosuit. I’ll have my name tag on so if you see me give me a “hey you.”

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Slender Spoons. Those little spoons have put many a Crappie on the ice for me.

I use a lot of the 1/16th ounce Slender Spoons. This year, I’ll be working the 1/8th ounce variety to mix things up. For colors, I like the following.

    • 101-Silver/Chartreuse
    • 103-Silver/Orange
    • 105-Silver/Blue
    • 201-Gold/Chartreuse
    • 203-Gold/Orange
    • 301-Black Nickel/Chartreuse
    • 304-Black Nickel/Purple

I tried the Black Nickel patterns late last year with great results. I can’t wait to get out and get a full season in with them.

    I am with jeff

It’s difficult to look at everything you see and only buy what you need.
How about organizing a guide package of jigs that would work for a designated species.

Specifically one ice kit for a guided walleye trip up to Rainy Lake for early
    ice walleyes.

I could just pick up the care package at Thorne Bros;along with a couple recommended ice rods and reels and then be off to another vendor.

the whole line up from Custom jigs and spins have been good for me. Some others that i have had success with:

Northland tackle – mud bug, frosty
I have a few “hali” jigs that have been really good too

These are a few of the ones I use on the Mississippi. Lil’ cecil’s, rembrandt, purest, ratso, candy stripe, moon glow, rat finke and the Custom Jigs and Spins line of Diamond jigs and Gill pills are definately a go to.

Those are some that use and have proven to be fish catchers. If you are after walleye or perch on the river I have had found out that these have worked for me.

I’m sure whatever you choose to fill your tackle will work. Be mobile, search for fish, and change baits. They will always bite on something!! Good Luck!
