Lake Winnipeg has 6″in the south part of the lake. I walked out about 500yds. There is some very rough ice out about 3/4 of a mile could make for hard driving later

    Thanks for the update, Lee.

How’s your bite on Winnipeg early season? Is it typically a river bite or do you see a solid lake bite?

The bite on the lake is good early. The Red produces some big fish early and is easy to fish. It is possible to fish both in the same day. The Red was not too good this fall. Water was very high and dirty.

Winnipeg is on the bucket list for 2011. I know you’ll get busy once the ice sets up but if you have time now and then drop in to keep us up-to-date on the bite.

The quality of your fishery up there is unreal.

I hope to be one of those guys sharing your ice with you this winter.

yes I guess I am spoiled. Not to many days I can’t catch at least 25 walleyes that average 4 lb’s. On a good day you can catch 100. Real good chance of catching a fish over 10lb’s and we do catch a few over 15lb. every year.

I posted this question to you in the Canada forum but I’ll throw it out here as well. Do you have a website (please share it here) and what do you have in your area for laker fishing in the winter?

A 15# eye through the ice would be epic! So that leads me to the question of when is the best time to come for the biggest fish?

The Red produces large fish in Dec. Lake Winnipeg produces large Walleye from Dec. to mid-March. We don’t have much for laker fising close by. I would suggest NW Ontario for lakers. I would talk to Calvin Svihel from this site. If you search the ice fishing reports he did one on Lake Winnipeg last March.

My web site for ice fishing is http://www.indigodestinations.com
you can also check out “Lake Winnipeg Ice Fishing” on Facebook for updates.

If your going to the St. Paul Ice Fishing show I will be there in Booth #406.
