Looking at getting a walleye rod from thorne bros. All of the handles have me a bit confused. Is it a personal preference or is there more sentivity in one over the other?

Personal preference….and I personally prefer Tennessee handles…
ekruger01Posts: 594November 23, 2010 at 3:17 am #911701I’ve been told the tennessee handle is more sensitive just due to it being about the lightest in weight. In some cases, it may be true. I personally like to have the security of a standard reel seat. I would definitely give that hidden hood reel seat a chance if I would be in the market for another rod.
November 23, 2010 at 3:21 am #911704You Eastern’ers! SPOILED.
Wanna know what I have a choice of buying, and it isnt handle selection or color. I have a choice between some 10.00 ZEBCO fiberglass rods, 20.00 Berkley Combo at Canadian Tire or the very few panfish rods sold at our Sporting Goods stores made by HT.Get this, buy and HT rod bag and the rods dont fit….
SPOILED SPOILED. lol enjoy!November 23, 2010 at 3:43 am #911710Quote:

true. but then I dont get to test out features like handle selection. haha. defeats the purpose of a real ice rod, doesnt it? lol
November 23, 2010 at 3:50 am #911711another question for you guys.. How does the medium action walleye rod do on 1/8 oz lures like a buckshot?

If you gave matt, or pat a call at thorne bros, they could get you pretty darned dialed in on an ice rod!
November 23, 2010 at 4:21 am #911721Thanks boss. I might have to, my HT rods are nice but wont handle a 20lb plus shark… need a BIT more back bone to rip Chubby Darters, Raps and some heavier jiggin spoons around.
Ill be in contact thanks Luke.November 23, 2010 at 5:01 am #911724Brandon I will also be at the shop from 3 pm to close to help you out as well.

Fil….I just had a rod built made just for lake winnipeg greenbacks, where last winter I was ripping 3/4 oz live targets…like a rattle trap. I went to a medium heavy rod stretched out to 34″ in length with titanium guides, simply because I am fishing outside 99.9% of the time. This rod will be a great light laker rod as perfect greenback rod. Pat Smith or Matt Johnson are amazing in building a rod for you over the phone, its really fun to listen to how specific to detail they can get with just a few minutes over the phone.

Can’t wait to put them to use!!

Speaking of thorne bros…..Have you used that 36″ quiverstik? Or are you still Noodling?
arklite881southPosts: 5660November 23, 2010 at 1:55 pm #911771Hey Cal,
I used it about 1/2 the time last year for Crappies. That ole Noodle stick I have is like a 13 year old lab that has hunted by my side since I was a kid. The obvious quality in the quiver stick is simply unquestionable. Just need to teach this old dog a new trick, and get used to the subtle differences!! I would guess you’ll see the Daze Camp in 100% Thorne Bros. rods SHORTLY. Actually I’m not even sure if it fair to have any further advantages.

It will be fine. I prefer the perch rod.
