    I have 2 fishing regulations ?’s.

Question #1 – Is the use of a device like the Automatic Fishermen that actually sets the hook for you, legal on inland waters in the state of minnesota? I thought other products like the bank YO YO’s were illegal.

Question #2 – Is the use of 2 lures on one line legal – A example would be if you tied a Genz Wprm to your main line and made a 6 ” droper line off of that and attached a ice ant? – I did find something in the regulations that reads ” Angelers may only use one hook. A artificial lure is considered one hook – The exception is that Three artificial flies may be used when angeling for trout, crappie, sunfish, and rock bass. I guess I’m unsure if a Genz worm and a ice ant is considered artficial Fly.

Not sure about #1 but I think so but on question #2 you can use 2 lures on one line on the river but not on the inland lakes where you can use 1 line and 1 lure only.

As far as I know, Unfortunately the Automatic fisherman is not legal in MN. I wish it was different. I would love to use them on some of the backwoods pike lakes.

Sorry but not true. In mn during hard water you can use 2 lines, so if you wanted to use 2 lures on 1 line you could but you would only beable to use 1 rod.

    Take care!

I do not understand how the automatic fisherman is considered illegal because it sets the hook using the rod bend to do so, but trolling with a downrigger and a fully loaded rod is perfectly legal. It seems like the exact same scenario to me……???????

One lure one line. I don’t read into anything more. The next big fishing secret might just be the next big ticket from the conservation officer in MN.

If I could do two lures on one line, I would think they word it plain enough for me to find it. It’s a good thing they don’t say one lure down one hole. Besides, I’ve tried three flies and all I got was a bunch of hooks looking to hook myself. I’ve only pretty much caught fish on the last fly. The other two flies were just weights with hooks. You can’t tip your flies with anything. The moment you do, they’ll be called jigs. Besides, only a conservation officer can truly give you the legal answer. Send them the email.

Well about what I thought – Clear as mud!!!! I will have to try to contact the DNR and see if I can get a clearer answer on these issues – In the past when contacting them things were even more unclear after contacting them than before.

Afer calling the Minnesota DNR here is the answers I got.

The Automatic fishermen or any other devise that either sets the hook or reels the fish in is Illegal on Minnesota waters.

The 2 hooks on one line issue goes like this – Like the bigfishman said you can use 2 lures on one line since you are allowed 2 lines in the winter while ice fishing. If you fish 2 lures on one line it counts as both lines so you could only fish 1 rod. The exception about 3 fly’s allowed only pretains to true fly’s while fly fishing in the summer time.

So I guess I’m now clear on those two issue’s.
