Looking at your pics…Man, aren’t those kitty-litter buckets handy! I love them, they fit my hut just perfect!
-RevJanuary 5, 2011 at 6:14 pm #922909A couple solid 9 inch farm pond gils, also had a 12 inch crappie caught. Ended the day with a fish fry using Progresso lemon pepper panko crumbs, perfect!
January 5, 2011 at 7:07 pm #922938Is there a prettier fish in the winter than the bluegill? I didn’t think so! Ok, perch are a close second.

I couldn’t agree more. I say that some members of the sunfish family could rival some tropical fish! Would be interesting and amusing to walk into somebodys house and see a whole tank full of gill’s, warmouths, and pumpkinseeds starin’ back at ya. I think I would have to run and get my pole!
January 5, 2011 at 11:56 pm #923034I know this is from last ice season, but you can really catch some colors in it. i agree about the gill being one of the most colorful

I have done this back in the day when aquariums were my life Actually made money breeding Discus and Oscars in breeding tanks while maintaining a 150gal Salt water tank with live rock, an 80 and 55gal tropical. Yep….I got carried away It was a fun science!
Then I got married and had to down size ……. But that’s another story!
To keep pannies healthy in an enclosed environment is not easy. It requires a chiller to keep the water cool and the colors beaming on panfish. Power heads are also a big plus along with live food. Live food makes a mess and calls for more water changes. It can be done but to do it right maintaining the tank is key
