Found some ice in CO! Finished my morning deer hunt and on the drive out, a local pond (near Golden Gate Canyon State Park in CO) had 4-5 inches of nice, clear walkable ice and two people out fishing. Went home and got my ice gear and headed out.
I fished for about 2 1/2 hrs, ended up with 8 10-12in Rainbow (kept 3) and 4 suckers. Kept 2 bigger suckers to freeze for Lake trout bait later this winter.
Man was it nice to get back on some hardwater.

Can’t wait until some midwest pics are up on the board. I’ll be back in MN over Christmas will hopefully have a chance to get out.

    Here’s to another ice season

There you go. You had to say grumpy old men. Now my wife has to watch it. O well I guess it could be worse.

First picture is me walking onto the lake on Friday. Only 24 hours earlier, I was in Central America. I had the best tan on the ice.

Second and third pic is a crack that opened up right by us. When you walked from one side to the other, you could feel the ice spring back up. It was kind of like walking on a trampoline.

Last two pics are me pulling in my first gator of the season and the resulting catch.

From the last Friday of WI Deer Hunting. Didn’t catch any walleyes, so I had to take pictures of the sunset.

I really like it. I am really able to bring out everything it was made for. It has an awesome super light tip like normal yet I am able to get pleanty of backbone to fight fish with and get a good hook set. I just like that the reel is set up to be behind your hand and makes the tip even lighter… Pat at Thorne Bros told me this when I talked to him about that handle. Its a Thorne Rod. Its nothing but the best quality well worth the money spent on it.

Here are a few pics from Saturday. The first one was driving to the river in the morning.

The second one was driving home on 94 about 1:00.

The third one was the view on the river. Apparently the fish didn’t get the memo that we were putting the bait on the hooks for them to eat.

It took 2 strapping young lads nearly 45 minutes to pull that house through the drifts. Not fun.

Great Photos you two! Wish I could get out there. I just called a local bait shop on the lake that I want to fish this year and they are telling me that there is still open water in spots and the rest is about 1 inch of ice or less GRRRRRR! Anyways, get job. Keep the photos coming.

Wow that is frustrating! I imagine we have 5 inches or more on most of the backwaters here in La Crosse, just head over here!

Yeah, thanks for rubbing it in! Ha ha. The ice should be here soon. We have had about a week of teens in the night to mid 20’s in the day. My wife is going crazy because I am going crazy not fishing. Oh well, patience is a virtue right?

If those are average perch then I need to come and fish where you are. Nothing like that where I am. Great photos. Keep them coming!
