Ice fishing thickness chart

With all the ice fishing hype going on right now, please remember no ice is 100% safe, but here is the friendly reminder of a chart showing the recommended ice thickness for travel. Remember no fish is worth risking your life over, even for some of us die hard fisherman. I think this chart is a little light for any vehicle traffic including a wheeler or snowmobile. 6″ or better for a atv for me and 15″ or more for my vehicle.

Thanks for the reminder, Calvin. Note that the type of ice is good clear early ice. As the weather changes the ice degrades and clear ice rarely lasts.

I wonder if that video on how to self rescue is still around. Maybe someone could repost it for the season.

I like that they call them “Rough Guidelines”…. They should put a life jacket on the guy going through the 2 inch ice.

Have you guys seen the chart that tells roughly how much ice is made in a 24 hour period depending on temperature and ice thickness? That’s a pretty sweet chart! I looked at that one quite a bit at first ice last year and it definitely seemed to be pretty accurate! This place sure has gotten busy in the last 24 hours
