I’ve tried several commercial auger holders that bolt to the back of my atv. None were metal and all of them have broken. Does anyone have one (commercial or home made) that works well and survives the winter?

I bought this auger mount from Wolf Pack Adventures.com last year for my Polaris Sportsman 500,they work great, keeps your rack’s open for other accessories etc., the cost was $70.00+s&h, I donn’t know if they make them for other atv model’s?

In exchange for some snowmobile repairs, my good friend welded up a new tubular steel auger holster for my snowmobile over the summer. It’s designed to remove from the sled with pins/brackets, it cradles the powerhead of my Strikemaster Solo and the auger shaft….I can’t wait to try it out. If I had pics, I’d share, but I won’t get to installation until hunting season’s over.

He’s experimented with auger holders for several years, and the key is to completely support the entire powerhead and the auger shaft. From experience, it is very possible to bend and/or break an auger shaft when the entire powerhead (handles) is not fully supported. I will add we run long, hard miles sometimes, so full support is necessary. A simple, light ride around you could get by with less I suppose.

Here are a few pics from the mount I built for my Strike Lite on my ATV. I had the Mad Dog mount before but since the Strike Lite has to be laid on the one end I figured it was better to build a new mount. Cutting board from Target, a design from Rod Woten and help from a good friend Matt, helped me put this bad boy together.

Wow! good stuff!! I’m looking for a good auger holder too. Cool seeing everybody’s own design’s too.
