Hey guys, just thought I’d introduce myself. My name is nate and I have been a long time lurker. Seems like a pretty good crew around here and I figured it was finally time to join. I spend most of my time in the UP and Northern Lower Peninsula during the ice season. I am absolutely obsessed with fishing the hard water and spend most of my time chasing walleye or the occasional jumbo perch. Here’s to cold temps and hungry fish, I can’t wait!

Welcome to the site Nate. This is “ice fishing central”. Look forward to hearing from you. I just got back from the U.P. Did pretty good on smallmouths and a few walleyes.

Right on Jerry! Where did you fish? I have been working in Montana since May and have a walleye itch that really needs to be scratched! I should be home pretty soon to take care of that problem though Montana is pretty cool, but there is truly no place like the UP!

    Nate:

Great to have you and thanks for joining in. Really looking forward to your reports and pics as that’s truly an area where fishing opportunities abound. Had a chance to explore that area more than 10 years ago now, and wished I’d have explored it more.

We fished Big and Little Bay DeNoc. Biggest walleye was 26 inches but we got a bunch of nice smallmouths. We had two 21 inchers that weighed 6 lbs. each.

I had a feeling that was where you went. Gotta love those huge Lake Michigan smallies!

Welcome to IDO Nate. Do you have good panfish in the UP? Sunfish or Crappie? I heard a rumor of some tank bluegills coming from that area?
Look forward to hearing some reports from the UP

There is some pretty good perch fishing to be had on bays connected to the great lakes. I primarily fish the eastern UP which is pretty much perch, walleye, and pike waters. There are some pretty big gills on some of the inland lakes but I haven’t spent much time chasing them. I plan on chasing them a little more this year since the daytime walleye bite has died on my favorite lake the last few winters. Hopefully I have a good report or two this winter!
