Had a pretty good Saturday on Lake Mendota. My buddy caught a 38 inch(17 pounds), 39 inch(about 13 pounds had a deformed snout like it was hit by a boat or something), Other buddy got a 34 incher (10 pounds) I brought up the rear with a 30 incher and a 28. All fish were fat as hell with spawn. We had about 20 flags with 9 tip ups.

Looks like you were on the south end off the lakeshore dorms? Been 18 yrs since school and fishing there for me.

Yup…. 8-12 feet of water. The big girls are staging for the spawn.
February 24, 2004 at 8:03 pm #293986The 40 inch limit is the best thing they ever came up with. Of course we threw them back.

February 27, 2004 at 9:16 pm #294079I just realized why that lake sounded so farmilar, my wifes aunt has a house right on it. I guess I will now be able to tolorate the in-laws a bit better!
How is the fishing on that lake, when the ice breaks up?February 27, 2004 at 9:34 pm #294479It is arguably the best bass fishery in the state. Week days are best. Too many idiots in power boats on the weekends. There are huge pike, musky, and excellent panfishing on all the lakes in Madison. The state record in Bass both large and small mouth and possibly Northern Pike are swimming in Mendota right now. I fish the Mississippi during the Summer. Less boat traffic. I know some of you are laughing right now. Try night time. Thats when the big ones eat.
