I have been loking to buy a couple new ice rods to replace my old ones. I came across Austins Custom Ice Rods and inquired about him making me a 17″ and a 20″.He emailed me saying he could make any size I would like. 2 Nights later he calls me personally and we talk about the rods and after talking with him decided to order 2 new rods from him. He seems like a down to earth guy and from the rods I saw on his website, they look pretty nice. Anyone on here have any of his rods and would care to comment on them? Thanks.

Got my 2 new rods today that Gregg Austin ( Austins Custom Ice Rods) made for me. This will be short– ” Beautifully done “. If anyone here is looking to upgrade to a high quality ice rod, give Gregg a call.

Hello- I just got an email from Gregg asking me how I liked my new rods and if they got there safely.I told him yes they arrived and that I was very impressed with the quality. and to be honest, they were packed VERY securely to say the least. He said he puts insurance on them just in case.He told me that if anyone else is interested a his contact number is 269-998-6790.A few members here and on another Forum have contacted me asking for his correct number as they said the other numbers didn’t work.

Pete- Found my way over here and see I will be spending some time surfing around. I am looking forward to the coming of the ice season I have had some other contacts thanks to you on getting in on some hand built rods. Thank you very much Another fisherman out of New York sent me some info on a big show in Syracuse in Dec. I might look into maybe attending it next year. As for now enjoy those new rods

I met Greg on Redstone lake in Wisconsin about 4 years ago along with “Loby”, which is the where I found out about these rods. I have three rods and the quality and action are great. I would recomend these rods to anyone looking for something custom made. Well worth the money and he is a great person to deal with.

Thanks for the kind words Todd and I appreciate all the hospitality here. It’s a waiting game on the ice now. Here in my neck of the woods it has been only getting into the 50’s during the day and the night time temps have been really nice Dipping into the low 20’s for the last three in a row. I will guess in about 29 days till we have some safe areas here in SW MI

The Austin walleye rod has a great action! Soft tip but solid backbone. I’ve been thinking about a second one, just in case

Welcome Gregg! Let me know if you are ever going to make it to the Northern Lower or UP to fish, maybe we can meet up!
