Insted of using my usal 2pound mono this year I am going to try some of this 3 pound fluorocarbon line. what do you think of this? Last year I broke off at least 6 times and I change my line often. Jerry

I myself am not a fan of spooling up fluorocarbon line. For leader material it is ok. I hate the way fluorocarbon comes off the spool.
My panfish rods are not spooled up with anything fancy for line. I am a fan of the 2lb and 4lb Trilene XL for panfishing and 6-8lb on my walleye stick.
Patience and a good reel with a smooth drag is the key to landing big fish with light lines. If you are having problems with the 2lb maybe step up to the 3lb or 4lb mono.
    That is just my opinion.

Here are a couple of reports were some bruisers came by to test my equipment out

    pike

    bass

    walleye

I fish deep lakes a lot and use 2-4 lb flourocarbon and love it. This walleye was caught on 2lb flourocarbon

I’ve been running 2 & 4 lb Vanish the last two years. I do a ton of cruising around on the ice in the open elements and a line that will not absorb water & freeze sounded like a win~win for me. That being said ~ any “wet” line will freeze when exposed to extreme temps especially with a nose curling wind chill. As for performance ~ well…the fish pictured in my mug shot was brought up on 2lb Vanish. But I’ve caught fish in the 8 to 9 lb weight class on mono through the ice as well. Your approach to landing a quality fish & the characterists of your reel has just much to do with that as the type of line your running. When it comes to fishing through the ice I firmly believe diameter of line has a much greater impact on putting numbers on the ice rather than the type of line spooled. With ice fishing EVERYTHING is slower, softer, and smaller. Patience can be a key virtue

Get yourself some ASSO fishing line from yourbobbersdown.com

They have been wonderful ice fishing line. Packaging is kind of cheap, but the line performances have been top notch.

It sounds like you had a bad batch of 2lb line. If I break more than once or twice in a short period of time that line is getting thrown away and re-spooled with some new line. I have always like the 3lb Pline, I use that for my perch rods and panfish rods as well. Floro has its time and place, most places I fish you can get by with standard line, however sometimes a finicky bite will require florocarbon. Most reels come with a back up spool, try one with florocarbon switch up spools and let the fish tell you what they prefer.

Its going to be a long 3.5 more months before ice season…but it will be here soon enough.

If the ice is thick enough to hold my bulbousness the day after turkey day, like it was last year. Only 88 days left. Less than 3 months.

I agree with slippery bob, get some asso flouro. I use the 4lb yellow flouro and just love it. I have only been broke off once while using it and that was a big northern. Its a bit expensive but I think its absolutely worth it. Dan
