My partner wants to replace our heater with a non-vented wall unit. Says they are safe with O2 sensor ect. I was just wondering how many of you guys have used or own one and what are your experiences with them good or bad?

We have one in our shack and it works great. No smell and I haven’t passed out yet (due to CO2)

So when the sensor goes off do you just hold the door open for a while to “refresh” the air?

they work just fine, we use a ventless blue flame heater in our rv. the only down side to them is that they put out a lot of moisture and all the walls will sweat. to counteract that, we throw up styrofoam insulation against the almost every window. it doesnt eliminate the problem, but it significantly reduces the amount of condensation that gathers throughout the nite.

I have had the shack for 2 years and the sensor has never went off.

They are good to use. use a carbonmonoxide detector and test often. -Mark

Real men dont need heaters or sensors. Just the ice, a bucket and a rod

I would be reluctant to sleep in a fish house that had an unvented heater. I have two houses with unvented heaters for day use and I am fine with that.

Be sure to read before you buy. Directions on a lot of CO sensors say they don’t work in the cold. Took my fishing pal and I years until the arm pain went away from monoxide poisoning from a small pinhole in the LP heater years ago.
Both CO and CO2 and invisible and odorless. Is it worth it?
