Reel weeds-Looking for opinion or more options

Last fall I purchased some reel weeds and didn’t pull them out very often. Sure the first couple times I went out I used them but after that the weeds pretty much stayed in their box. One reason I didn’t use them much is because we don’t have a very long ice season down here, I learned it is hard to see fish on my flasher with weeds deployed and the water is pretty dirty down here so you cannot see past 2.5 or 3 feet with a camera. Besides if I use my camera I really need to set up my shelter. To me they are geared more to the guy that wants to homestead a spot on the lake. I though about purchasing some more markers to tie onto the weeds during open water. Has anyone tried this? I am just trying to get some use out of my investment…

Have you ever tried pulling the camera? Sounds to me you possibly have too much down causing the fish to be spooked. I’d also Try getting creative with your reel weed pattern if it is causing too much interference.

I have fished with the camera and flasher, but without the weeds. I did not have any problems with fish coming in, my Grand Daughter loved fishing with the camera and flasher. I think it helped her to understand what those red and green lines were on the Marcum.

What are you recommending? A couple things come to mind that I have not done the first being to deploy the weeds in a circle around the perimeter of the cone from the ducer. And the second would be to deploy the weeds close together and try to pull fish out of the weeds with my jig presentation.

In the past people suggested creating a V with the weeds to funnel fish to the hole I was fishing like what I have done with the picture.

I dont use the reel weeds very much as I tend to fish outside alot. However, the best luck I have with them is two down on my jigging side and one down by my dead stick. I set them up outside my house and dont have issues with interference. A pike will tangle them up from time to time but other than that I havent had many problems
