I use to see a lot of fisherman using a wind tipup 20 years ago but not any now. Does anyone use these things? They allways seem to work good.

This the one your talking about?

I had a few, they are called Widlass tip ups. Cool to watch when they get hit, the end usually gets pinned towards the ice before the flag trips. Not the greatest on real cold days because the line freezes in the hole and the spool is above the water.

Oh ya but the window of opertunity to use them is very limited only time they work is when its above 30 and that means the ice is melting I have caught some Pig eyes on them as well as limits of eaters, they are popular in SoDak, seen 1 group with like 20 of them. 1 sinker 3ft above a livly minnow on a plain red hook with a little wind, cant beat it!

I use them any time the weather is right and love them especially for a light bite you can see the bite long before the flag is up.
