How much you want to spend? I would start looking at the classifieds on this site on a daliy basis pretty good deals here.

You could drop a grand in a hurry if you went with a new portable, vex/marcum and a auger……………

I would say a flasher is a must if you are going to get serious about ice fishing. My camera sees very little use with the type of fishing i do. Marcum all the way.

Pick up a new strikemaster auger 8″ or smaller.

I would pass on the house for now. Havent used mine yet this winter. Take the money for the house and buy some decent gear that will keep you warm on the ice. You catch far more fish by being out on the ice moving around.

Thorne Brothers is a good resource for buying gear. The guys there are a wealth on knowledge about ice fishing to.

Now is the time to shop the major retailers as they don’t
like to have holdover inventory of icefishing gear.

Houses will be reduced big time and electronics will also
    be on sale.

These items usually will go quick so stay on top of it.
Alot of these discounted items won’t even be advertised.

    Happy shopping!!

Near miss for both of us.I just sent a 5 gal bucket to a sportsmans auction 6-8 rods, dozens of new jigs, auger with new blades in the pkg, seat, small tackle boxes, and a lot more.If it all brings $75 I’ll be happy.Ice dipper and bait is all you would need.If you place a add “wtb icefishing items” here you may need a day off to read them Most die-hards upgrade something almost every year. That can make for a cluttered basement or garage! Also as said before now, actually couple weeks ago best time to shop sales.Deals on popular items are thinned down by now .But just starting still lots of stuff you will need.If you buy several items from one place they may give you additional discount.

Nows the time of year that guys are getting rid of their equipment for cheap. Go to craigslist and search for vexilar, strikemaster, and clam… Absolutely cant go wrong with those brand names.

I have an underwater camera and a marcum. The camera is nice for identifying the species a sonar is seeing, but after fishing with and without the marcum, I find it hard to believe I caught fish without it. The flasher is much more important in my opinion and I use it 10x more than the camera. It allows you to jump from hole to hole and quickly analyze what may or may not be down each one. The only thing more important than the flasher is a strikemaster to get you through the ice and a line in the water…

Are flashers very hard to read? Doesn’t lowrance make depth finders for ice? What tackle do you guys recommend for those species. Thanks for the help guys.

#1 item for me is a flasher. otherwise ur fishing blind, and thats never productive, unless your chasing bottle bass.

For the species mentioned Flasher is #1 for me also after some type of auger which is by far the most important item to have for ice fishing all other gear is useless if you cant get through the ice.
