Well what can i say, Lake Pepin got another one today the fishermen got out but the truck sank they have it marked off but what i hear is the truck is still under. Once again it’s upstream from Maiden Rock along the MN. shoreline.Talked to a friend who was fishing a mile downstream from the cluster of shacks and he checked the ice closer to shore and had 6 inches.
I recommend staying 2-300 yards off of the shore. So far noneone has lost there lives but it doesn’t mean it can’t happen. By the way the bite sucked this morn & afternoon. Be safe and good luck

I can’t imagine fishing on the ice on the river. It has to be an ever changing thing.

There is way to many that fall threw down there you think some people would start asking themselves is it worth it think i would just save a couple grand and buy a used a atv before i would drive out there any time soon

Can anyone tell me where Maiden Rock is? Just Saturday I drove up from Wabasha to Lake City and fished a little on Pepin for the first time. I don’t know the area very well so I just drove to town and drove on the ice where there were other trucks. I entered by a trailer park. I really don’t plan to get down there again this winter but want to be safe if I go there again. I guess the safest thing to do would be to leave the truck on shore but after dragging my shack all over the Finger Lakes I was pretty shot.

Even when there are vehicles around on the ice you need to be careful. At Dresbach earlier this year we were at a spot 40 yards from where a small parking lot had developed on the ice trying to work our way out and I told my buddy we needed to pop a hole and check the ice. His response, “dude, we’re standing on someones tire tracks it’s fine” Told him to drill it anyways. Should have seen the look on his face when the Mora hit water after about 10 cranks of the handle.

X2 Current and ice just don’t mix in my book. I know lots of people do and Canuck does in Manitoba all the time, but not me. Just too many unknowns. After all, you pay big time if your truck goes through and you pay with your life if you go with it. For a few fish? No way.
