I like it Jon. I am going to organize a day next year to take kids fishing. Dads and moms encouraged to come…….PLEASE!! LOL!! One day. I’m going to have them drilling holes, fishing, hot choc……The whole deal. I plan on talking with Strikemaster, Marcum, Otter……..All of our Ice Sponsors to see if they would like some involvement. Maybe I can even get a reel report of the event. Probably next Feb. Oh No charge.

This one caught me by surprise. I know they have one weekend in the early summer for take a kid fishing. This Ice Fishing weekend must be new this year. Good idea to plan a day around it.

That’s a good way to get them started. Pretty fun chasing flags if the bite is on. Good Luck!

My favorite thing to do is take my son fishing! He is 4 years old and will be 5 this fall. I’ve taken him numerous times open water fishing in the summer. I’ll try and post some pictures of this kid tearin up the bass in small ponds. I am a little hesitant to take him ice fishing. Maybe next year? Anyway, the best thing you can do is get a kid hooked on fishing!!!!

My daughter will be 2 on March 1st…and she loves to go icefishing with dad…she is really good a scooping the ice out the hole I am fishing…you should see the look on her face when a fish comes out of the same hole she is cleaning.. good thing they make plastic scoops because she likes to leave them floating in hole.
A great way to spend some time with dad

Wow and here I have been holding off on bringing my son with, and he turns 2 next week. May have to give this a shot. He LOVES fishing. I just figured he was a tad to young. Although I had to buy him his own set up for this summer. I think I’m going to need an extra set of hand when I bring him.

I have twins and it is hard to take them unless I have an extra hand or two. Once I put two carseats in the jeep I have no room for gear or I’d have had them out sooner. then there is the issue of gear for 5 year olds. When you can drive right up to the fishing or to a perm shack it is easy. Most of my spots mean at least a half a mile walk pulling a hundred pound sled. With my buddy and two 5 year olds we can put out 12 tipups. Last time I went to Mendota we had 2 flags before we were even setup all the way and we were only fishing 6 last time.

Portable dvd player with a juice box and cheerios goes a long ways when she gets bored…

The ice scoop is the main attraction when taking my son (almost 4) along as well. And boy does he come running when Dad yells “Fish On!”
Anything to get him excited to go fishing…even if he spends most the time ‘fishing’ for ice!
