LX-3 issues

Not sure what is going on with my Marcum LX-3…
I had the upgrade done and it seems it hasn’t been the same since. I was fishing in about 20 ft of water and was only able to pick up a 3″ jigging spoon with the gain all the way up. If you turned it down to half, it wouldn’t pick it up unless you moved it…. I have only had it out on the water maybe 5 times since I got the upgrade and 10 before the upgrade.
    Any ideas??

Sounds like a transducer issue. Try a new one or try to find someone that will let you try there transducer.

or the battery is going bad, but I think I’d be leaning towards the ducer too.

I have the EXACT same problem as you’re having and it’s a ducer issue. I went up to the headquarters in Minneapolis and they looked at it and found that it was the ducer. I’m going to pick up a new one from them within a couple of days and will test it out and let you know how it works. Unfortunately for me, the head is the old style and they won’t upgrade to TC without putting a new head on it. At $149 for a new TC head, I think I can get by with red, orange, and yellow for a few years.

I picked up a LX-3 without the upgrade and I feel that I have the same problem. I currently have a GSX(Ganders version of the VX-1) and it is ten times the unit of my LX-3. This should not be the case! I put a new battery and it got better, but still is not as good as my other.

Where did you find an LX3 without the upgrade? This is just a guess but I would think that unit is 6+ years old. Without knowing how the previous owner treated it I would think the best thing to do would be to take it to MarCum in New Hope and have them run it through their testing equipment. If anything is out of spec they’ll diagnose it and get you fixed up in a hurry.

I bought it used and it appears to have been taken care of. When I run it side by side with my GSX I have tremendous feedback no matter how often I push the IR button. I bought it thinking it would move my GSX to the bullpen , but for now it will stay in the starting rotation.

This is pretty much the same issue I just sent back one of my LX3 for, by itself it worked ok, put it next to anything forget about it, pretty much nothing worked around it. Sounds like it needs a trip to the repair facility. Both my LX3’s now work perfect side by side. No reason they can’t all be perfect

BTW both my LX3’s are non True color models, I rock’em old school.

Mine is also non-TC. What was the charge to have it gone through? Also, what was the address you sent it to? Thanks for all of the help!

    $50!
Yeah that sucks, busy time of year, Minnkota, Lowrance and I”m sure other go through the same issue in spring, massive wait times…

Maybe I should have my wife send in her resume, they appear to need a little extra help, she needs a paying job, and is a Customer Service expert, win-win lol

Honestly I waited a couple years to send mine in, I’m glad I did they (Versa sp?) did a great job.

I’ve also got a non-TC LX3 that needs some work so I went up to the repair facility and asked about upgrading to TC. They no longer do the upgrade, rather you need to buy a brand new head in order to get the TC.

Runs $149 for a new head direct from them. Wish they still did just the upgrade, but they did them regularly for $49 a couple seasons ago and then only did a few last season. Now you just need to buy a brand new head.

To me it’s always been a non issue, I can see three colors just fine, not sure I’s pay $50 for it eitherway.
