Do you guys usually tip the Cecil’s with live bait of some kind?

I never tried them, I’m sure that someone who fishes with them will chime in. Welcome you to IDO

    Welcome to IDO Reel Crazy

Lil’ Cecil’s are very versatile. I have had them produced while tipped with a minnow head, waxies (doubled up or single), spikes and plastics.
There are also times they don’t need to be tipped at all.

On some of my Cecil’s I have changed out the treble hook to a smaller size, personal preference. Sometimes I feel the less hardware the better.

I don’t tip them with any bait, but I only fish them when the fish are aggressive.

Most of my lil cecils get more use now at the end of a deadstick with a minnow. I removed the treble hooks and replaced them with a single hook.

95% of the time I dont tip them with anything. But there are days when a little extra attraction is needed. Thats when I will use the gulp maggots pretty exclusively. I like the red and natural colors the best. A helpful tip using Cecils is always keep the blade bouncing. I like to start the bait 3 foot off the bottom and jig it down to the bottom then snap it back up to where you started. Alot of times it really draws there attention and triggers a strike. Hopefully this helps, Dan

the only time i use a lil cecil is when i know crappies are present along with panfish. i just tried this the other day. i put a minnow head on one hook and a waxie on another hook. i ended up with 3 12in. perch, a pile of panfish, and 6 10-13in crappies. hope this helps

I rarely fish a Cecil loaded. Downsizing the treble and keeping the blade dancing are good tactics.

I almost exclusively fish them without being tipped with a spike or waxie. Seems you don’t get the action on the blade that you do when fishing it solo. I have also downsized hooks and also changed out blades and blade colors. Someone above said they only fish them with really aggressive fish. Try fishing them when nothing else is working. Up size a little and even be more erratic with the rod tip, you will be suprised with the outcome I think.

I usually fish them with a single waxie, most of the time i try to flatten it out a little so it flutters much like the blade that is on the treble hook. I usually fish them for crappies and start about a foot or two above the fish and slowly jig or shake the it down past the mark. usually the fish will follow. when it works correctly you will notice the weight of the jig no long picks up the slack, when that happens just reel up and burry the hook and enjoy the ride! this also works well with lots of baits…lately its been diamond jigs and hali jigs

Thanks for all the replies guy’s. I wondered about the size of the trebles but I was just told by a guy to try them and I wondered what most of you experts do for fine tuning so thanks again. And being a Packer fan I appreciated the shot to Viking nation!

I have used it both ways.I have sight fished with them in my tent and if you put a big wax worm on them it will give the bait that little bit of hesitation on the drop making the big blade lay on its side for just a moment. Some times they really like it that way(crappies). But nothing is cast in stone in fishing .Good luck STEVE
