I fish this area a lot. Not much of an icefisherman, like the open water. Out most of day today(not much). Guy I was fishing with caught a brown trout,just over 16 inches, releasted. Just courious, is there a stream close to Winona dam it could have came from? Fished this area for years and have never seen a trout caught there.
Yes, there are several streams that dump into the Mississippi above and below Winona that might be the source of the trout.

We have had some discussions about others that have caught large trout in pool #4, from which I posted the result of my inquiry with the DNR regarding the regulation regarding being able to keep these. Unfortunately, the they are out of season and must be thrown back. Do a search on “Pool #4 Brown Trout” for those postings.
