MarCum Transducer

    Hi all,

I bought a used LX-3 on craigslist a few weeks ago and it hasn’t worked quite right for me ever since I bought it. Today, I got up to the MarCum customer service location and they took a look at it and determined that it’s a transducer issue and that the ducer is bad.

I’m wondering if anybody out there has a used, in good working condition LX-3 transducer they would be willing to sell to me. I’d rather not shell out 70 bucks plus tax for a brand new one. Looking to pay less than $45-50. I’ll pay for shipping if you’re from out of the MSP metro area or be willing to meet you within 45 min or so from the MSP metro area.

    Thanks!

I’m not usually one to tell another guy what to do with his money but I’d suggest, strongly, that you buy the new ‘ducer for $70. Why is a guy likely to have a ‘ducer he’s willing to part with? Because he was having a problem with it and bought a new one. Not that you couldn’t find an honest guy with a mint part. But I would go so far as to say I wouldn’t like those odds if I was the one doing the looking.

I definetly agree….whats an extra $20 when u know that u will be getting a mint condition ducer that will work for years upon years as to possibly getting another poor one

Alright, you guys have convinced me

The guy I bought it from didn’t ever have this problem so he has been very willing to help make it right and is going to pitch in some $$ to help defray the cost. Would they have them at Cabela’s? I imagine they do but I guess you can’t really say til you get there or call ’em.

    Thanks for the input!

They do have them, but I have a gift card for Cabela’s so I’ll get the ‘ducer for almost free with the $$ the guy I bought it from is pitching in. Looks like I shoulda just thought my options through before posting this thread. lol Hoping this will solve my problems and I can get back on the ice with a fully functional LX-3 to aid me!

I bought an LX3 from a guy too and the ducer was bad. I got the new one and all is well. Boy can that thing find fish…now, if I could just get the hook in their mouth.

You would think Marcum would redesign a better transducer if they havn’t already. Most of the posts here are transducer issuse .

IMHO, people wouldn’t have issues like this if they’d pull their head out their and treat their equipment better. I’ve had mine for over 3yrs and it has the original battery with it. Why? Because I take care of my ice fishing gear all year long.

I watched a guy drag a transducer across snow and ice for close to 20yds. Never once, stopping to pick it up. It bounced and skidded for as far as he walked. I’m guessing he’s one of those guys who’ll be the first to complain about poorly built equipment when his unit breaks.

    Well said

I’m kind of a freak about my stuff too! The little extra time and effort it takes to wipe it down when you’re done or put it away nicely sure is worth it. My stuff works and I have confidence in it. If I want to sell something to upgrade or what not I can get more resale for it too because I have the owners manual and it is in like new condition.

I’m on the other end of the spectrum. I beat the living daylights out of my fishing electronics. However, I expect things to break and I’m fine with paying for new stuff. I just had to replace a 6 year old LX5 transducer after using it for a battering ram to get through ice over holes.

And that’s perfectly fine too. You know how you’re going to use it and expect to experience the downside.

I hate to see the flip-side where guys treat their gear poorly and then whine and cry about how it’s junk.

I have taken great care of it since I’ve owned it, putting the transducer away and making sure it’s all tucked away nicely in the bag when I’ve decided it’s time to head home. The guy I bought it from said that he hadn’t used it in a year (he bought an LX-5, I believe) so I’m guessing that has a part to play in this dilemma as well.

I’m going to hit up Cabela’s (since I have a gift card with some balance on it) here pretty quick and pick up a new ‘ducer to try and solve this issue. I’ll make sure to take excellent care of the machine as a whole as well, I’m not going to beat it up so I have to invest more money in either a new machine or more repairs for this one.

Cabelas doesn’t typically carry winter ducers…they will or should have the high speed transducers for summer mounts…

Yep. Called to Cabela’s and Gander AND Scheels and none of them carry MarCum ice-ducers. Looks like I’ll be heading up to the headquarters to pick up a new one.
