hey, i have seen many videos, and pictures of people catching cisco and tullibees. i have also heard that they are great eating to some people. my father who is really old now, cant go fishing that much, and according to him, he misses eating the asian fish from his home country, and to him a cisco or a tullibee would be the closest thing in his mind. i have never seen a live cisco or tullibee, never the less try to fish for one. so for my dad this year, i told him i would try to catch some. can anybody give me tips. and a lake name. or is it too hard to try. let me know, thanks.

Mille Lacs! I know people used to catch them in the deepest part of the lake. I believe that some resort from the Southeast part of the lake plows roads out to that area? It would be great to get your dad some of them! RR

Mille Lacs has really rebounded for these buggers. I have four that are ready for the smoker tomorrow.

As RR said regarding the south end; Lybacks used to have a road out to the Tullibee Hole which is an area south of Hennipen Island that is about 40 feet deep.

Last week we were catching them off the edge of seven mile flat.

Leech lake probably better than mille lacs but I have caught a few this year on mille lacs. fish deeper water mud areas. spoons minnows just like for walleyes.

Its funny you mention this… I just got back from Mille Lacs. I bet our group iced over 200 tulibe this weekend.
I have a bucket full and if your Grandfather would like a few I still haven’t cleaned them for smoking and pickeling yet. I know its not the same as getting them yourself but thought id offer. If you are going to ML soon PM me and I can let ya know where and how. You can do it in a car and hand pull about 200 yds if needed. 4×4 right to the spot. GPS would be helpful.
Size ranged from 18″ down to about 8″ as the smallest. By far the biggest Tulibe I have ever caught, and very consistant. -Mark
You might be able to talk me into going back next weekend, might still be there???

I agree with Fish Any Time, they sure are rebounding on Mille Lacs. We were on Seven Mile on Friday and they were everywhere. I caught four jigging a buck shot and rainbow head. I would imagine we could have caught many more if we were trying for them. I would set up in 30+ feet of water and you should see them. They were running in pretty big schools.
