Well I did it,…. I left my new custom Thorne Spoon rod laying on Lake Winnie. If you’re reading this and have a newly acquired rod and real, you A) have a really nice new set up or B) can take the reward money I’m offering.

Pat, Matt, and Josh,……see you in the morning

what really gets me is that it WAS the only one like it in the world. Now there will be 3

I think this is why they call it a sweetheart. I havn’t been this upset since my childhood dog died

I hope you get it back. I know I almost cried when I let a friend borrow my walleye sweetheart(and rod bag) and when I opened the rod bag I got 2 pieces…Very big bummer, friend replaced the rod but it was just a shelf one not my custom one.

That sucks! Was the bite good enough to ease the pain?

you are right, this thing is one of a kind!! It really has great action and the walleyes really come in nice with the backbone this rod has! I’m not interested in the reward, but thanks for the offer!

Well I felt too naked without that rod. I ran to Thorne Brothers this morning and ordered 2 more of my custom 1/8 oz spoon rods.
Matt Johnson said that they’ve made the requested “Matt Grow 1/8 spoon rod” for others. I want to hear what you guys think of this rod; because its my favorite out of any other ice or open water rods I own. I might take it with me in the boat for opener this year

I had one built… I just got it though so no time with it on the ice, yet. I’ll be changing that soon though and when I do I’ll holler over to you and let you know since my next time out on the ice will be with you up on Leech next week.

I also had one made because you wouldn’t stop bragging about it when we were ice fishing on Leech… However I made mine into a 34″ vs the 36″ that you have which gives the rod just a little more of a more firm tip…I love this rod for less than 3/16 oz baits. Handles like a dream on the 1/8oz spoons, honestly you can feel when the minnow head is gone, during the jigging motions. This rod allows you to be very subtle with your jigging technique meanwhile have a firm grasp on how your spoon is reacting below the ice. Knowing that your lure is running properly according to your jigging style is very important. Too heavy of rod may cause too much movement, and too light of a rod may not move your bait enough to get fish to bite.
This rod is my go to rod for everything, except finicky panfish. A nice addition to the aresenal.

Modified??? Just wondering in what way. I use my 28″ perch sweetheart and its awesome for in the trap, but next year I think I’m gonna have them build me a 34″ or 36″ with outside guides. IMO this is the best walleye rod there is.

Its 36″ blank that is shortened
    5.5″ handle
    Indoor guides
    Indoor guide spacing

We made this rod specifically for an 1/8 oz spoon. The tip action is perfect for my liking and the guide placement loads the rod up faster for bigger fish.

I tried fishing my spoons on the 32″ perch sweet heart, and it just didn’t feel good at all.

This rod was made for spoons,…..Its a beautiful thing. Either that or I’m just way to picky
