    LX-5 veterans,

    Question 1:
I have fished 2 days now, about 6 hours with my unit and the battery meter still said 100%. I just plugged it into the charger and then read 40%? Is this normal?

    Question 2:
While jigging tonight in 15 fow in “normal” mode, no zoom no sfl etc. I had single yellow lines going from about 14 ft up to about 4 or 5 ft then disappear. I am sure it was not fish. It seemed to happen when I would drop my spoon down. What could cause this? Didn’t start happening until later in the night.

    Thanks,

#1 My DCS always reads lower when it is plugged in to charge than it does when it is monitoring the battery alone.

#2 Guesses to follow…. If you had icing / ice crystals on your line (I see this more often when fishing braids) the ice will actually show up on the LX5 then disappear quickly as it melts. Did your line start to ice more “later in the night” once the temps started to drop causing more icing? The LX5 is sensitive enough to display those tiny shards of ice that cling to your line. I’ve also fished tubes for lakers that gave off air bubbles on the descent that would be displayed on the LX5 for a short time period as well. But those are just guesses. Without being there to get a feel for the circumstances they’re just… shots in the dark.

Russ, I will try and answer you questions…
I think that once you plug your unit into the Dcs charger it will tell you the status of your charge. As in 40% of the charging time is complete..
I find that sometimes when i drop a spoon or any other lure quickly down the water column sometimes you get some air bubbles that will show up as rising yellow bars on your flasher.. You can try turning you gain down a tad so you don’t see as much of the unnecessary stuff..
Hope this helps… It is a great tool!!

    Good luck out there

I did have some ice on my line and I did drop my spoon down pretty quickly. It could have very well been ice.bubble or a combination of the two.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I would agree with the ice or air bubbles also. If possible you can turn down the gain to not pick them up. Once and a while there are even bubbles that come off the bottom. Have you ever noticed extra marks after reeling in a fish. Sometimes this is food they spit up while fighting to get off the line.

I met a buddy out last night and he wanted to fish Kamp’s so I agreed . Left my auger at home because he was bringing his Got set up in the community of permanents and jigged for a few hours with nothing to show for it. I can’t understand why he was stuck on fishing there after I told him I saw 2 walleye and quite a few crappie and perch pulled out around the small village in the middle of the lake. Oh well it is fun to get out and the weather was right. I’ll be heading to a few rock piles I have marked on the west side of the village in the middle of the lake this weekend. Hopefully I can put mo Mom on some active perch. She is a very lucky person so I wouldn’t doubt if she pulls an eye or 2 on tip-ups too. It sure is nice to be able to take her out and put her on some fish. She is the one that taught me how to fish when I was a kid. My dad hates everything about it. Rock on MOM! I’ll get some pics and post after the weekend.

I had the same problem with my LX 5. I noticed it after moving to a few different bodies of water and it always appeared at the same one. I figured out you get some of this when the battey is low. I always ended the day or night at the same place cuz it was close to home. I started there once and it was gone so I came to the conclusion that it was just a low battery. I drain it pretty low everytime before I charge it just to extend the ussage a bit. You may try this as well.

As stated above because of the incredible power of these units often times braided line especially when fished outside will absorbe a bit of water thus get some minor ice crystals that your marcum will briefly pick up. They should fade rather quickly as they melt in the open water. Gain adjustments can be made to eliminate for a brief period before they go away.
