Last Friday and Saturday, myself, Slab Hunter, Fish King, and Frank did some fishing on Big Blake and Big Round (just north of Amery). As always, we had a great time.

The fishing on Friday afternoon was a bit slow. The group did catch some Sunnys, Crappies, and some Perch.

The fishing on Saturday on Big Round was pretty good in the morning. However, things slowed down around 10:00am. It was at this time that Fish King decided to make breakfast. It was a simple meal of eggs, onions, and Jimmy Dean sausage. I pre-made some buttermilk biscuits to have with the meal. It was delicious…nice job Fish King.

The ice on Blake was around 12 inches. The ice on Big Round was between 16 and 18 inches.

We will be venturing up to Big Round again this Saturday in search of big Perch and to try some Walleye fishing.

Looks like a great time guys

Do you ever venture over to Bone while you’re up there? If so how has that been this year? I haven’t made it up there the last few years.

Russ- If you guys are looking for a portable you are more than welcome to use mine. I have a 2 mn. Not far from Brooklyn Park either. I won’t be fishing the next 2 weekends.

    Let me know.

Been waiting for this report. I will be up at the cabin this weekend trying out a “secret” lake north of Big Round now that the ice should be safe and if that doesn’t work heading Big round.

    Jeff,
I will be heading to Big Round with my son’s buddy this Sat. early a.m. ; the rest of the guys have other commitments, something about work and the Vikes game I think…..
I know where your “cabin” is now, nice place, perfect spot too.
I’ll be starting on the east side of the lake in the 17′ hole. I’ll be on my red Sportsman, look me up when you get on BR. We’ll stop by your cabin after if I don’t meet-up with you on the ice.

I am heading up to turtle lake this weekend to visit a buddy and we are probably fishing on Big round at some point over the weekend. Is there any jigs/bait/locations that might help us get a start? It sounds like we are going to fire up the strikemaster and pound lots of holes to find the fish.

    Woody,
Big Round has lots of structure, check out a lake map. I mainly fish the deeper holes for the larger perch using a Swedish pimple and a head. I do have to move around a bit to locate them. Some of the gravel and rock humps toward the SE end hold some good sized ‘gills too. Fish just off the edges in ~ 10-12 foot, they were there pretty good last weekend. They were hitting lots of presentations but I found that I had to change often; size, color, type, etc…I didn’t find any one that worked better than the others. Hope this helps and good luck.
Frank, I’ll text you when I’m leaving home Sat. a.m. (leaving early since Trekr isn’t joining me)

    Thanks slab hunter

We have a couple of lakes we are going to try up by Turtle Lake. I know that my buddy wants to hit Big round, and we will fire up the auger and hopefully find em. Thanks for the info, I will try to let everyone know how we did.
