Heater Problems

I have a MR. Heater Cooker and on a couple different occasions I have had some problems with the unit. This weekend when I went to light it I pushed the plunger down and it seemed to spray out a lot more gas then it should, you could actually see a fog coming out. Luckily it didn’t blow up, but I have had a lighter up to it before when it has done this and a good size fire ball will come up right past your head. Does anyone else ever have this problem with sunflower heaters, I am using the 1lb cylinders. I thought about buying a Buddy heater but it doesn’t look like anyone favors them.

I had one that did that some years ago..I replaced the Automatic Safety Shutoff and Orifice Assy w/o Manifold.

you can order parts online if there isn’t someplace close to you that has it..

I switched over to the Mr. Buddy Jr. this year and so far I’ve been really happy with it. I’ve only used it 6 or 8 times so far and only with 1 Lb. tanks ( Need to get a filter for the 11Lb tank ) On the high setting I don’t think it puts out as much heat as the Mr. heater does on the low settings but it keep my 3 person trap warm enough in below 0 temp to keep me warm. I like that with the buddy you can put the back of the unit right up against the fabric of the house without burning any holes in it. I also had the same problem as you on my old Mr. heaters.

Had the same problem and actually replaced the exact part the ecnook recommended, worked great this past weekend. Quick fix, I hope that it works for you.

sounds like a safety valve is bad…

i went with a big buddy for my setup and absolutely love it! i find that they are a lot more hassle free than the sunflowers. just turn it on, it has an O2 sensor and a tilt shutoff incase of a problem. to me, the safety features and ease of use are worth the extra investment.
