Has anyone ever used these for crappies at night in WI? I’ve heard it can really bring them in, fires up the bugs. I have one I bought that you can drop down the hole and lights up a pretty big area, haven’t tried it yet.

Haven’t tried one but I have heard that it will attract the bait fish and the crappies will come in to feed on them. Let us know how it goes if you do get it out and put it to use.

Yup, using artificial lights to attract fish is illegal in MN. But what isn’t?

I’m glad that it’s illegal in MN. A glow jig is enough.

Now remember to put the light away from the area that you are fishing. You want to fish right off the edge of the lit area, at least that’s what has worked for me. Crappies stay off at the edge in the dark.

Yep, illegal in MN but legal in WI.

In Minn., can you ice fish at night?
Can you use a lantern set on the ice or inside your shanty to see to fish at night?
If so, that will accomplish nearly the same thing as USING ‘artificial light’ to draw fish at night and still be within the law.
Don’t have the Minn. regs handy so I don’t know exactly how the law reads.

The light actually has a rope that lets you drop it down to like 20 feet if you wanted too, it will light up a pretty big area way down into the water column. Its kind of neat because the ice you are standing on its like a disco floor.

I’ve seen guys drill a hole 3/4 way down and put their lantern in it which lights up the actual ice penetrating deeper into the water. Not sure if its legal in MN but works.

I think it’s legal to use your camera lights and Aq-Vu makes an add on flood for about $20.
