Hey guys, new to the board this is my first post. Well the reason I joined is because this board seems to be heavy with marcum owners. Well I have an lx-3tc i got in mid december, came with a cracked shuttle that has already been replaced. I love marcum and there customer service already. Well i’ve had it out I don’t 12-15 times and yesterday i noticed something weird after i had it running for 20 mins on the ice. This is hard to explain but i’ll do my best. It seems that the bottom is moving about a half inch clockwise on the dial periodically. If that makes sense to anybody. This is not hurting the performance of the unit but is a little annoying. If anybody has experienced this or has a quick fix let me know. Thanx in advance,,,, eyestroker

P.s I know i can contact jon at marcum, but like i said not that big of a deal and I’m not sending it back for this until ice out…. too many fish to fry untill then

I dont know Marcum all that well, but I fish the Showdown and if I have another Flasher close to me my bottom jumps, and depth changes? even though it isn’t… maybe its just something as simple as blocking out that interference??

When I turn the “noise” up I can completely block out an FL-8 inches beside me and fish that hole in 40 feet.

    Welcome to IDO

It could be a number of differnet things….The transducer could cause the bottom to jump if its old, also could be a slight problem with the main board inside the head unit itself…Could be a result of the cracked shuttle….did you buy this unit used?? If the unit is fishable right now, I personally would wait til spring. If you have a week when you know you won’t be fishing send it in.

Look forward to hearing about reports in your area…

The unit was bought new and the shuttle was cracked when i got it,and they already sent me a new one. I am not going to send it back till ice out like i said. Was just wondering if anybody else had experienced this and if their was a quick fix to it. Thanks for the welcome as well….

Welcome to the website. I fish the Mississippi River a bunch in the summer months and catch a lot of whites. I’ve just never done it in the winter. I bet they’d be a hoot on light tackle.

I bet. I know you have to be careful with them in the summer. It is real easy for them to go mushy on you if you don’t get them on ice… QUICK.

My LX-5 does the same thing when I am using the zoom. It shifts a bit and then comes back to where it was. I have never had a flasher before this so I just took it for normal. Haven’t seen it happen in normal mode. Does yours come back to the position it shifted from or does it stay shifted?

It goes back and forth in normal mode i haven’t been using the zoom feature the last couple times out. I too am not sure if this is normal. I don’t think i noticed it when i first started using it. but have noticed it since I’ve been in deeper water like 12-13 ft. I’m sure somebody here will enlighten us…I hope…

Sounds like your timing might be off ever so slightly / intermittently. It isn’t a huge deal if it is happening once in awhile so you can wait to the end of the ice season to get it looked at.

Oh yeah I’ll wait. It does have a 2yr warranty and i’ve already got to test the customer service which was stellar so no worries here, if nobody has a quick fix.

Nope, this one doesn’t sound like a do-it-yourself jobbie. OR at least I don’t have a clue how to go about it.

No, the LX3 & LX5 have a two year warranty. The VX1 has a one year warranty.

Warranty info for each model is located under the “specifications” tab for each product.

the vx-1p only comes with a year warranty, it also doesn’t have three led true color, it’s soft case leaves a lot to be desired compared to the the lx series, and it does not come with the nice 3 stage charger and battery monitor. So if you are considering a flasher know this a vx-1 for $299 does everything a Fl18 will do for $449.95 and more. but for an extra $50 it is a no brainer to go with the lx-3tc. That is if you can afford it. Remember to get a digital bottom zoom it costs at best 400 bucks for a 400 watt vex. for $299 you get optical bottom zoom on a marcum and you don’t have to buy any suppression cables for extra $$$$$$. This is why more power + better performance no matter what vex says. With more power you can have a true zero gain not jack it up from the get go and then sell band aids to suppress it down the road…. Sorry if this is too much info but i researched for weeks before i chose marcum and there is a lot of info out there to sift thru and if I could have just had somebody put it all in lay mens terms i coulda chose sooner.

disclaimer: I do not work or in any way am affiliated with marcum or versa electronics…..

    Thanks James,

I’m glad to know that I have one more year of warranty on my LX-5.
