I just am curious as to how the ice conditions are looking if heading out of maiden rock. Is it safe for an ATV to cross the river?? Also how is the fishing if anyone cares to share??? thank you

They are driving full size trucks all the way to the main channel now. I had 13″ of ice yesterday 200 yards past the main red channel bouey out of Maiden Rock yesterday morning. I fished in 16′ of water without much luck, but have heard better reports in the deeper water. So thats where I’ll be going next time!

We fished Frontenac mid last week before the cold hit…..got 1 white bass. I can’t imagine it has gotten better after the deep freeze, but you never know .

I just received a photo by cell phone of channel cats being caught down there.

Now to get the gps coordinates.

I dont think I would try to cross Lake Pepin from the Methodist campus or Frontenac beach to Maiden Rock. It seems to me that ever since they started the warm water discharge at Prarie Island the ice on Lake Pepin has a tendency to change from day to day if not hour to hour.
Last winter I believe 3 trucks went through.
If I was headed down I would drive to Maiden Rock and go out from there.
When you say you were out to the bouy did you mean the big daymark bouy?
Has anyone gone down to the Pine Creek area yet to look for crappies. This creek is just a mile or so down from Maiden Rock.

You are correct perchhead, the big day marker way out there. I did not see anyone or tracks heading to the south, but I was’nt looking for it either.
