Who makes a great tip-up light for the money? I have the cheap red one that clips on the tip-up with the cheap stick battery . Last night was out fishing and the darm thing flew off when the flag went up. Did not see it until I went to leave for the night.

I picked up the new frabil orange lights a couple of weeks ago @ FF and have been very impressed with them. Last weekend I could see them very clearly even when a flag popped on the outskirts of my set up. Around ten dollars a light, but well worth it in my opinion since the cheap lights rarely last longer then a year. My dad has those same lights you are talking about, and these frabils are of much higher quality.

I use the frabill light and siren strike indicator. Mine are the yellow boxes that screw onto the tip up. You can set them to show just lights or lights and sirens. No need to check the tip ups every 5 minutes from the shack with these babies. I use a camera a lot so I like it dark in the shack. Shut the windows and listen for the siren. I have been running the same ones for 3 years now and have been very happy with them. Same 9v batteries since the day I bought them. The red led lights are very bright. I think you can pick them up for about 12 or 13 bucks at any sporting goods store. Good luck.

I use the Strike Sensor pagers. They are on the spendy side, but they work awesome. They have at least a 1/4 mile range. The transmitter and reciever cost around 50.00. Each additional transmitter is about 25.00. They have a little red light on each transmitter. When the key is pulled from the transmitter, a beeper will sound on the reciever. You don’t have to bother looking out the window of your shack unless your beeper goes off.

Back when I used to ice fish a ton, we did a lot of night fishing for eyes. We tried many many differnt lights. The cheapest and best we came up with are the ones in the pic.
They are the blue and orange things in the pic. The main base attaches to the top of the post and the other part goes on the flag, and its magnatic. When a fish pulls out line it spins the base and detaches the upper maganet triggering the light. There is a light on each side of the base. This way you can also see if the fish is taking line as your walking over to it. I have yet to have any issues with these.

The lights in Erics post are called lighthouse and gander has had them in the past. I use them and they work great, you see the post spinning as you go to your tip up so you know if the fish is running even in the dark.

I also use the Frabill orange lights and they are highly visible and work with good batteries reliably. One gotcha for me is that the batteries don’t seem to last more than one season and those 357’s are $3 each and each light requires two so a set of three lights will cost you $18 per year but they’re still working on their third season. I took mine one step further and removed the flags on my Beaver Dams and use just the orange light (off) during the day for my indicator. It can be seen a long way off and guys half way across the lake aren’t yelling “flag” anymore so I can quietly catch my fish.

Strike sensor pagers day or night. Its nice to be able to set and forget during the day when you want to have a dark shack. And if you decide to nap the pager will wake the dead.
