Thee Best Start to Fishing Ever! NOTTTTT!!!!!!!

Well at 5:50 in the AM I finally made it to my destination of the usual West Rush Lake hot spot with not another fisherman in sight. I had two heaters and a good lantern and not a doubt it my mind that today was gonna be a great day. I got the clam outta the truck and with not a second to waste I got the strikemaster out and pulled her till she started. She pulled half-way through the ice beautifully until poof she killed abruntly. So I pulled and pulled but still she didn’t start. So I brang some light in to see what was up and it turned out I was outta gas. ****…… Supposively my dad went out fishin the other day and didn’t fill her up. But a measly 4 inch of ice isn’t going to stop me from fishing. So all I could do was get on my knees, grab the blade of the auger and twist until I was through. About 20 min later she finally got to the edge and I broke the rest through with my ice scoop/chipper. God was that horrible. But through all that back breaking work it was well worth it. I limited out by 10 and even caught one nice gill. Best part was I didn’t even have to move around. The crappies just came to me haha

That is tenacity at its best. Gas…who needs friggin gas. Good thing you had an auger, I’d hate to see what the ice would have done to yer front teeth!

Usually when I drill a half hole its not to fish. Way to stick with it, I’d say dad needs to hand drill a couple for you next time.

We weren’t out of gas, but its hard to run an auger when you kick/break the throttle bar off… LOL Even better when you get “the incident” on camera

(search youtube for “Ice Auger Fiasco”)

The Ice Auger Fiasco is worthy of being added to this thread!

    Thanks, James…

That auger fiasco on LOW (and all of our trips) was a blast… We never fail to get some sort of de-railed fiasco story out of our get togethers… The big guy with the auger is Joe Winter (IDO member, he will be at the GTG in Sept…) I’m running the camera as usual.

As a clarification, we really aren’t auger idiots…

The auger cut extrememly well all weekend until we hit this patch of ice. No matter what we did, it just “stuck” at the bottom of the hole and wouldn’t punch through. There was some pretty bad ice/slush/whatever between the good ice and the water. We moved 100 yards, and it cut through just fine, withough doing anything different…

BTW, Joe is 6’6″ and that auger has an extension on it.

On those deep holes lift up and blow the snow out about half way down, seems to help the getting stuck part for some reason.

That wasn’t really the issue, as no other of the holes that we drilled that weekend in other areas caused us any issue… We had drilled about 4 other holes in that same area (some holes we completely cleared out like the one in the opening in of the video) and we still couldn’t get through… Just REALLY bad ice at the bottom…. 10″ blades, Probably just a lot of surface area to “catch”…

Easy for you to say, I live back in Coon Rapids. Thats a 40 mile difference… and I’m not really one to walk away in situations like that. If anything I would’ve just slept in my car till another fisherman came by and I’d ask to borrow his auger.
