Boys be careful when setting your portable fishhouses up in slushy areas. Often times when we get heavy snow there is so much weight on the sheet, water seeps through the holes in your fish house. I always leave or shovel new snow down around the perimeter of my flip up Otters, and then lay it back down. Shovel a bit of fresh snow on the external tabs. This will ensure you DO NOT have your house locked in, and prevent you from having to spend time ripping it out.
Secondly if your planning on fishing an area for a few days pound a few holes in the spots you plan on fishing the next day, and drive your sled over it a couple times. The next day you’ll be GOLDEN!! No slush, and on rock solid ice. A little extra work, but WELL WELL worth it. This also holds true for trails coming in and out of fishing destinations. Run it with your sled only at first. If there is slush you will have made yourself a nice trail for the coming days. If you attempt to blaze new trails, and DON’T make it the penalty is severe. A few tips that can save valuable time when we get heavy snow early in the ice fishing season!!
